How to apply for a preschool in Stockholm

You apply for a municipal preschool place in the City of Stockholm's e-service. Under the Education Act the municipality must offer a place within four months. Independent preschools and parent cooperatives often keep their own queues.

Statistics do not tell the whole story. Visit the school, ask about its profile, size and travel time, and read reviews from other families on each profile page.

How does School Reviews rank schools and preschools?

  • Children per full-time staff member and the share of staff with a teaching degree come from Kolada (RKA) and use the latest year reported for each preschool. Fewer children per staff member counts as more favourable. Values below 3 or above 10 are left out of that list because they almost always come from reporting artefacts, such as very few enrolled children.
  • Parent ratings are based on reviews on School Reviews. A unit needs at least 3 reviews to be ranked, and its rating is adjusted towards the city average (equivalent to 5 extra reviews) so a single five-star review cannot beat many consistently positive ones. There are currently 14 ratings for 9 units in this list.
  • Each list shows one thing at a time – we never merge different measures into a made-up “overall score”. Ties are sorted alphabetically. Closed units and open preschools are not included.
  • Limitations: the statistics describe students' results and staff qualifications, not a school's overall quality. Small units may lack figures because the authorities do not publish them, and reviews reflect individual families' experiences.
